Day 42: Out for a Stroll

I'm not sure why I did this, but I just suddenly felt like taking a shot of my cane on the dirt path that winds through the meadow on the way to our house. I often walk this path either to the post office, the coffee shop, or the park and library. I loved the shadow the cane cast, too. Just wish I didn't have to use it so much...I definitely needed it today.

Day 60: Birthday Celebration

Today is my 43rd birthday, and Keith and the kids celebrated it in great style: Keith brought me flowers and made my favorite spinach-and-mushroom-stuffed chicken with white wine sauce. Keith baked a gluten-free chocolate cake and the kids gave me presents. Earlier in the day Kitty and Judith took me out to lunch at a fabulous little Italian restaurant, so I've had a truly lovely birthday.

Day 54: Me, Myself, & I

T kindly took some photos of me as I was wanting a new profile photo for Facebook. Several of them came out okay, and this one was the best. He took a couple of me reading and more of me sitting at our school table writing. I am one of the least photogenic people I know; I rarely take a good photo, and this one is merely "okay" on my scale. But I didn't want a four-year-old photo on my Facebook profile any longer. Thanks, T!

Day 48: My Desk, Part 2

As I mentioned yesterday, I've been spending a great deal of time at my desk this week, working on registrations for the writing workshop this weekend. So this is what I've been looking at all week: my desk. On the wall is my 2009 Rule of Life and a postcard of Shakespeare's birthplace from my former Shakespeare prof at Point Loma who spends almost half her time in England (I will not be envious, I will not be envious). Keith and I purchased this desk light in the days immediately following our honeymoon, and I've always loved it. My favorite rosewood dip pen peeks from a china holder (along with the matching china-handled letter opener).

Here's a detail of some desk items: my fancy bottles of calligraphy ink in front of my box of Winnie-the-Pooh stationery and the slate heart Keith made for me for our first Valentine's Day as a married couple. Isn't it lovely? It's been on my desk ever since.

Day 20: Exercise????

With my chronic pain issues, I have to be extremely careful while trying to exercise or I can end up on the couch for at least a day. I have started at five minutes a day and have slowly worked up to 13 minutes a day right now ... about two miles, burning approximately 100 calories. I have a lovely view of pines and oaks while pedaling in our screened-in patio next to my jacuzzi, and I usually read so I don't focus on the additional pain. The steroids I've been on for the past couple of years for my autoimmune issues have added quite a bit of weight, and I want my size 6 body back, besides desiring to strengthen my sometimes wobbly legs.
