As I visited with people in the crushing crowd between services today, I suddenly found myself face-to-face with an old friend. Arlene, her husband, and their child (now two children) moved to Pennsylvania about five years ago, and until today, we had only seen them once since then. Arlene is a doctor, an M.D., who came out west for a short-term job in the San Francisco area, then popped down south here for a few years. Her husband is a scientist who is now teaching at a small liberal arts college back east while Arlene works very part time so she can be home with their kids, ages 4 and 6, as much as possible. We had really hit it off when Tim and Arlene lived here, so seeing her face peeping through the crowd this morning was such a blessing!
