Treehouse....
Keith (with the help of the kids) built this marvelous treehouse in the large pine to the south of the house. Engineered from the ground up by a civil engineer (Keith's dad), it boasts Victorian fish-scale shingles in different shades of green, a redwood ladder set with a landing so no one will fall all the way to the ground, a redwood deck and balcony which look out over the meadow, a special entry door that's rigged with weights so it won't fall onto anyone's head, and a roof of clear molded plastic so we can see the pine branches and sky above. This summer the kids will paint the inside walls with a design all their own, and after that we'll put down indoor-outdoor carpet remnants. It's a dream of a house....
However, this corner of the yard is where the three boys tend to play. Keith made the interlocking lawn blocks when E was a toddler, and the boys play pirates in this fort in which they crawl through the dirt, getting totally and completely filthy. Somehow, the treehouse is too pristine to be fun, perhaps because it's already mostly done and the joy of creativity is nearly gone....

Amazing treehouse! And so typical that the boys play in the construction zone rather than the finished produce!
WOnderful treehouse! I have tried to get the boys here to follow through on many of the designs, but designing seems to be more interesting to them than the actual work of building. :)
Very nice treehouse! Dh built one for our dc - well, technically he's still building. They're always putting in additions. He's working on putting in a floor on the bottom level for dd and sides for the very top level (for mom's peace of mind).
This is a riot -- big-boy play and little-boy play!
That is one AWESOME treehouse. One of my dreams is to live in a treehouse, or a cob house, with solar everything. ;-)
Great dad!
